Special Editions I

Volkswagen has always been a brand that has been based on being different. Volkswagen owners have taken this even further; customizing their cars and forever changing the landscape of the future of the Volkswagen brand. Because of these values, fans have come to expect a few little surprises from their favorite manufacturer throughout the years. This year will be no exception and, as always, Volkswagen has delivered with a smile.

Over the next month or so, we will be highlighting the special editions that will be released throughout the 2013 and 2014 model year. There are a few new additions to the line-up, and these vehicles definitely stand apart from the rest of the crowd!

First off, we have our beloved Beetle. Volkswagen has once again thrown a retro punch into the bug by reintroducing the GSR, originally released in 1973. The Gelb Shcwarzer Renner (Yellow Black Racer) will be fitted with R-Line bumpers and smothered in yellow paint with a blacked out trunk lid and gas cap. Let's not forget the black racing stripes running down the hood!

Jump inside and the fun continues, with a black and yellow themed interior, and leather seats and a numbered steering wheel (only 3500 will be made). The GSR will also be badged on the exterior, as well as the shift knob. The dash will be built around the R-Line dash cluster, and the car will sit on a Turbo with Sunroof and Sound trim level, however it will feature an upgraded version of the infamous 2.0T. This little pocket rocket will be humming to the tune of 210 horsepower! We've featured this car as a new special edition once in the past, but look to see these lightning bugs streaking down a street near you!

Gelb Schwarzer Renner Returns!

VW will finally bring the Gelb Schwarzer Renner (Yellow Black Racer) back after more than 40 years. This car will celebrate VW's first steps into automobile racing, commemorating the 1973 Beetle GSR. It will be launched as a 2014 model and will only be available with the 2.0 liter turbocharged engine.

Here's a little twist on the little engine, however. This time, the famous 2.0 TSI will re-emerge with a bit of a power bump, boosting to the tune of 210 horsepower. That's 10 more than previously offered versions of the engine. The car will be painted in the same bold yellow/black paint scheme, and will also be sitting on a set of massive 19" wheels. If the paint scheme isn't enough to let onlookers know, it will also be badged with GSR logos. Take a look!

Shark!!!

What if we could drive a Volkswagen under water? What if we could drive under the ocean and watch the sharks swim about (in the comfort of a safety cage, of course)? Well now we can. Volkswagen has teamed up with the The Discovery Channel for it's famous Shark Week special. They made a shark cage in which divers can observe sharks in safety. However, this is no ordinary shark cage, as you'll see in the video below. This shark cage is actually a replica of the 2012 Beetle, and actually drives! It has twin propellers mounted out back, and features the same 19-inch Tornado alloy wheels available on the land based version. Check it out!
